Web design brief
that gets you real quotes.

Vague briefs get vague proposals, and proposals you can’t compare are worse than no proposals at all. This builder walks you through the questions that actually change a quote — what your customers need, how you’ll measure success, what has to get built, and what you can spend — then produces a brief you can send to any agency.

Nothing is sent to us. Your answers save in your own browser, and the brief is yours to send wherever you like — including to our competitors. Use it freely; a link back is appreciated but never required.

Your business

Context an agency needs before it can price anything sensibly.

Be specific. This drives more design decisions than anything else in the brief.

What success looks like

The single most useful section, and the one most briefs skip.

Write the symptoms, not the solution you've already decided on.

If you can't measure it, neither can the agency — and you won't know if it worked.

Scope

What actually has to get built.

Content is the most common cause of a project running late.

Budget and timeline

Withholding these doesn't get you a better price — it gets you a vaguer proposal.

A range is enough. Agencies scope to budget; without one you'll get proposals you can't compare.

Platform requirements, compliance, integrations with systems you can't change.

Working together

Sets expectations on both sides.

Say it honestly. Committee sign-off changes the timeline and every agency knows it.

The 'why' matters far more than the list.

Before you send it

Two things worth knowing. First, include a budget range — withholding it doesn’t get you a better price, it gets you proposals scoped to wildly different assumptions that you then can’t compare. Second, send the same brief to everyone. If each agency is answering a slightly different question, you’re not comparing quotes, you’re comparing guesses.
